La Vuelta began in Monaco — on the streets of the city where Tadej Pogačar lives. The first stage was only 9.4 kilometers long, but even on this short road everything became as tense as befits a great race: Pogačar beat Ethan Hayter by nine hundredths of a second and pulled on the red jersey.
Nine hundredths.
A number you might simply skim past in the results table. But that is exactly what makes cycling so amazing: sometimes the meaning of a whole day, a whole road, a whole preparation fits into such a tiny difference.
Eleven years ago, a Vuelta was beginning too. At that Vuelta, delighted by the participation of a reigning legend — “Lo Squalo,” Vincenzo Nibali — we said our first word.

And to this year’s Vuelta came the reigning legend — perhaps the greatest rider of all time — Tadej Pogačar, to rewrite history once again and win his second immortality.

The first? His five triumphs at the Tour de France.
The second? He has to win it right here: to join the pantheon of those who have won all three Grand Tours.
And now, as Tadej Pogačar writes a new page of this history, we too want to continue. We want to come back — not because we need yet another source of cycling news.
No.
We want to bring back the feeling that stays with us while watching a race. That moment when, even before the result, you want everyone to reach the finish safely. That question that won’t leave you alone after the finish: why did it happen this way? Who was expecting what? Where did the race change? What did the sports director see that wasn’t visible on the screen?
We live alongside the world peloton, and we want to share our emotions, observations and impressions.
Cycling isn’t only the winner. It is young Brennan’s first big day; Pogačar’s nine hundredths in Monaco; a team’s patience, the breakaway’s fruitless effort, one person left alone on the climb, and a spectator’s memory that nothing can erase even years later.
That is why Velorbola is lining up at the start again.
We don’t promise that we will always be the fastest. Nor do we promise to be the first to bring you every piece of news. But we will try to write about cycling the way it deserves — with love, with curiosity and with the question without which a race is just a finish protocol:
Why did it happen this way?
Here, cycling isn’t just read about.
Here, cycling is felt.
Here, cycling is lived!
This article was prepared with Velorbola’s editorial perspective, with the help of modern analytical and digital tools.
