When cycling goes beyond numbers and watts and becomes pure emotion: Mikel Landa’s historic triumph at the age of 36, Enric Mas’s cool-headed defense, Roglič’s dignified podium, Felix Gall’s phenomenal season and Visma’s heavy artillery, which lifted Sepp Kuss from 11th place into the top five.
There are days when the great chess game of the general classification moves into the background and gives way to the things that make people love cycling more than life itself — irrepressible romanticism, suffering and final vindication.
Today was such a day. Today Mikel Landa made the whole cycling world cry.
Eleven Years of Waiting and the Return of the Basque Lion
“Landismo” has never been just a sporting tactic. It is a religion, a worldview for those who are captivated above all by relentless attacks, unexpected defeats and rising again from the ashes.
Remember how much this man has been through: in 2015, when he won his first Vuelta stage on a brutal summit in Andorra, he was still a young man. Eleven years have passed since then! Eleven years filled with serious injuries, broken bones, selfless work as a domestique for others and those cursed seconds that robbed him of Grand Tour podiums.
And now, at the age of 36, when many thought his time had passed, the Basque lion was left alone on the climb.

When Landa crossed the finish line and collapsed onto his handlebars, it wasn’t just the exhaustion of a winner — they were tears of pain, disappointment and happiness accumulated over a decade. Everyone who has ever had their heart broken by an athlete cried together with Landa. It was a celebration of the highest justice.
Enric Mas’s Cool Head
While Landa was writing his fairy tale up front, behind him, among the GC favorites, a completely different drama was playing out — cold, calculated and uncompromising.
Enric Mas chose what befits a true champion: he took no risks. When the enormous weight of the red jersey presses on your shoulders and you hold the only, coveted chance of your life in your hands, there is no more time for romanticism. At the decisive moment Enric chose defense; the burden that had unexpectedly fallen on him didn’t break him, he didn’t give in to emotion, and he controlled every meter with such precision that he left his rivals not even an illusion. He passed his test right to the end.
Roglič’s Maximum and Gall’s Noise
Primož Roglič didn’t work a miracle, but no one can blame him for that. If we remember his condition before the Vuelta — heavy crashes and doubtful form — the second step of the podium is the maximum the Slovenian titan could squeeze out. He defended his place to the end.
And something must definitely be said about the Austrian: Felix Gall really made some noise! Reaching the podium of two Grand Tours in one season is top-level piloting in modern cycling. Gall is no longer a random upstart — he is a full member of the elite.
Visma’s Heavy Artillery, Nordhagen’s “Tow” and Tomorrow’s Puzzle
And finally, a bridge to tomorrow, without which this picture would not be complete.
If we recall Wout van Aert’s and Team Visma | Lease a Bike’s day today, it is very hard to think about anything for tomorrow. The mountains jersey was more of a mirage — only a mathematical probability — but lifting Sepp Kuss from 11th place into the top five was a reality truly worth forging!
And for this reality Visma rolled out its heavy artillery: Wout, in parallel, poured all his energy into the job, and on the final climb young Jørgen Nordhagen performed a true act of heroism — he practically “towed” Sepp Kuss to the finish and catapulted the American straight up to fifth place in the general classification!
But after Wout worked all day in such a merciless mode and wore himself out, thinking about tomorrow’s hard, classic-style finale seems almost unrealistic. Only a phenomenal, supernatural recovery could help — it would be a true miracle if Wout managed to win the stage tomorrow.
Tomorrow… no one knows what will happen tomorrow. But today one thing is beyond doubt:
Aupa Landa! Landismo is immortal!
